„The Role of Women’s Leadership in Faith Communities. Marking 80 Years of Women in the Rabbinate“

International Conference in Potsdam & Berlin, Nov 17 – 19, 2015

This fall, the Abraham Geiger College and the School of Jewish Theology at the University of Potsdam will mark the 80th anniversary of Rabbi Regina Jonas’s ordination with an international conference, “The Role of Women’s Leadership in Faith Communities.”

More than 40 presenters from Europe, Israel and the United States will explore the impact of women in the rabbinate and the ministry, discussing issues of leadership and authority, women’s religious scholarship and gender (in)equality today.

The ceremonial address, “The Presence and Absence of Women in the Intellectual History of the Jewish Community,” will be delivered by Professor Rachel Elior (Hebrew University of Jerusalem). The Wednesday and Thursday sessions will open at the University of Potsdam on the outskirts of Berlin, with Professor Pamela S. Nadell (American University Washington, DC) providing the Opening Address. The conference will conclude on the Thursday evening with a concert and a very special presentation: CCAR President Rabbi Denise L. Eger (Los Angeles) has kindly agreed to join and to challenge us to make Judaism bigger, more accepting and more inviting. She will talk about “Women as Agents for Future Change.”
